New Delhi: Telangana, which found place in the ‘achievers’ category in the logistics index chart 2024, benefited from dedicated freight corridors, expressways, and initiatives like the skill development programmes. There were also improvements in road and warehousing facilities, according the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2024 report released by the Commerce & Industry Ministry recently.

Telangana exceeded all service indicator averages, demonstrating excellence in timeliness, track and trace, and cargo safety, the report said. States like Telangana and Uttar Pradesh lead sustainable logistics initiatives, with focus areas including adoption of green practices and women’s workforce participation, it said.

LEADS 2024 subsumed all States into four categories: coastal, landlocked, Union Territories, and North-Eastern. Coastal achievers were Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu; landlocked achievers were Haryana, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand; UTs were Chandigarh, Delhi; and North-Eastern, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.

Below this rank were ‘fast movers’ and then ‘aspirers.’

The report said that top performers such as Telangana and Uttar Pradesh reinforce confidence in logistics ecosystems. “Telangana has maintained its position as an ‘achiever’ within the landlocked group. The State has outperformed national and group averages for most of its indicators. This performance is further demonstrated by the initiatives being implemented by the State government to promote the growth of its logistics ecosystem,” the report said.

Telangana has adopted a forward-looking approach to ease and optimize logistics operations through standout initiatives such as the Telangana State Logistics Policy 2021-26, which emphasizes private investment and infrastructure development. Projects such as multi-modal and integrated logistics parks are being established with public-private partnerships or PPPs, supported by single-window clearances.

Sustainability is prioritized with the introduction of electric buses, zero-emission trucking (ZET) through the ZET Accelerator and energy-efficient urban development plans. Workforce readiness is enhanced through a Centre of Excellence for Logistics Training in collaboration with the Telangana Academy of Skill and Knowledge (TASK), while digital platforms such as Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) streamline approvals and provide real-time logistics visibility.
